Get to Know Us - President's Message

Welcome to the Erb Group of Companies. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to introduce you to the North American transportation company I started as a one-man operation, more than 40 years ago.

Even before I climbed behind the wheel of my first truck I believed that the key to this business was to provide exceptional customer service. Today, the Erb Group has grown to play a major role in national and international transportation, but our commitment to service and satisfaction is unchanged. The first words of our corporate mission statement are: “Service, Satisfaction, Success”.

I still feel a great deal of surprise and gratitude when I remember those first years of our company. Initially in 1959, I was the owner-operator of one dump truck, hauling gravel for the construction of Highway 19. We found a key niche in 1965 when we bought our first reefer – the start of our refrigerated fleet. Another important milestone was the purchase of an unrestricted PCV licence in 1970, to carry refrigerated goods throughout Ontario. In 73/74 we developed our almost unbeatable Less-than-truckload (LTL) service and opened several refrigerated terminals. Today we have 10 terminals in Canada and the United States.

Our growth over the last four decades has brought more than geographic expansion; it has also seen Erb develop state-of-the-art technology to keep us at the forefront of our business. As early as 1991, Erb became a leader in the use of electronic data interchange (EDI) within the trucking industry. We are committed to offering our customers every advantage that technology can provide – it is a crucial part of our superior customer service.

Flexibility has also been a priority for us in the types of service we provide. From LTL to truckload…to our courier/dedicated/emergency service and modern cold storage facilities – we can deliver what you need.

We’ve seen a lot of change over the years…but one thing has remained steady – our number one goal is to be sure we treat our customers, suppliers and employees fairly and with respect. We have met that goal, and will continue to do so – the many long-term relationships we enjoy make it clear that we are achieving our aims.
