Steckly - Six Podiums in Seven Events
Montreal, Quebec, Sunday Aug. 3, 2008: Scott Steckly has surely set a modern day record in top tier Canadian racing with his sixth podium finish in seven events in 2008. Steckly's Tow Truck in a Box/Schick/Erb Group Dodge Avenger finished in second in Saturday's running of the Napa 100 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
The 22 Racing team as usual provided Steckly with a top five car for the practice and qualifying session as Steckly notched the fourth quickest time. Kerry Micks last year’s winner here, set a new track record in his pole qualifying effort with a time of 1:46.604.
The NAPA 100 on Saturday was again this year run before a full house of enthusiastic race fans. Steckly settled his Tow Truck in a Box/Schick Dodge Avenger into fourth early in the twenty - three lap event. The top three of Fitzpatrick, Micks and Ranger were battling hard for position and the 22 Racing driver was biding his time and waiting for an opportunity. Lap 18 would see that opportunity present itself and Steckly was able to move by the No. 02 of Kerry Micks for third. On the final lap Steckly was able to dodge a spinning Fitzpatrick to bring the Tow Truck in a Box Avenger across the line second. “My car as usual was great today,” said Steckly. “The front three were really going at it hard early and I just decided to sit back for a few laps and wait for my chance. It finally came and we were in the right position to move up. Our Tow Truck in a Box/Schick team did everything right again today and while a win would have been nice – big picture is it helped us extend our points lead.”
Hometown favourite Andrew Ranger was able to get the win after narrowly missing it here last year. Kerry Micks finished third with D.J. Kennington and Don Thomson Jr. rounding out the top five.
Scott also ran in the NASCAR Nationwide Series event at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Saturday. After qualifying 36 th, Steckly was forced to retire after only 2 laps do to a transmission problem. He finished the race in 41 st position.
Steckly unofficially now has a 146 point lead heading to event eight of thirteen in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at Mosport Speedway this Saturday August 9th. For schedule, tickets and directions please visit www.mosport.com
