Steckly’s Fast Car Finishes Sixth at Riverside Speedway

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series headed out to Eastern Canada for the final time this season, going to Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, NS. This was the first time the series has visited Riverside Speedway, which is similarly built to Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, TN. Riverside Speedway is one of the best racing facilities in Canada. The race was scheduled to take the green flag on Saturday, September 15th, however rain and heavy winds forced the race to be postponed until Sunday afternoon. During practice Scott Steckly, driver of the #22 Erb Group Dodge Charger posted the fifth fastest time. Steckly lost a bit of time in qualifying, falling back to the 13th position.

Steckly was able to run in 12th until an early incident with #39 Dave Whitlock. This caused some front end damage to the car. The Erb Group Charger lost a lap to the leaders, while trying to get turned around on the race track. During a long green flag run NASCAR’s scoring monitors were malfunctioning and at one point were scoring Scott as three laps down, when in fact he was only one lap behind the leaders. A caution on lap 208 was caused when Steckly and Whitlock got together again. The team pitted 3 times during the yellow flag changing all four tires and adding fuel. From that point on Steckly had the fastest car out on the race track. He was able to claim the ‘lucky dog’ and get back on the lead lap. Steckly brought his Erb Group Dodge home in sixth place, the last car on the lead lap.

Steckly said after the race “I am very happy with our team’s ability to comeback despite the early set back we had. Hopefully, we can have a good finish next week at Kawartha and finish the season off strong”.

Leafs TV returns as the primary sponsor for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series championship deciding race at Kawartha Speedway in Peterborough, ON this Sunday, September 23rd.
