Over the last week and a half it seemed like where ever the CASCAR Super Series went the rain would follow them. The August 14 th race scheduled for Cayuga Speedway was postponed until September 10 th due to rain. Again this past weekend the race at Peterborough Speedway which was scheduled to run on Saturday night had to be pushed back a day, to Sunday. All of the rain did not affect Scott Steckly driver of the Erb Group/ International Truck and Engine, #22 Pontiac Grand Prix, as he posted his best finish of the year at Peterborough. Scott has always done well at Peterborough Speedway, a challenging 1/3 mile oval.
Steckly qualified the Erb Group/ International Trucks car to the 11 th fastest time. Peterborough really only has one racing grove so it is very hard to pass on, but Steckly slowly was making his way through the field and halfway through the race he was in the eighth position. After a caution on lap 120 Scott was up to sixth place. The green flag racing continued until lap 198 of 200 when #10 Doug Brown lost a right front tire and brought out the final caution flag of the day and setup a 2 lap shootout to the finish. On the restart Brad Graham, who was running in 3 rd at the time got out of shape, and ended up spinning because of a flat tire on the backstretch allowing Scott and all the lead lap cars to move up a position. That put Scott in the top-5; it was his first top-5 finish this year for the #22 car. Of the top-5 finishers only Kerry Micks made a pit stop. Scott was happy with his results from the race saying “we had a real hot rod today; with a few more laps we may have been able to get a podium finish”.
The next race in the CASCAR Super Series comes on September 4 th when the series makes its second trip to Delaware Speedway for this year.
In the drive for the 2005 CASCAR Super Series Championship, of which Scott presently sits in 11 th place, the 22 Race team is proudly sponsored by: The Erb Group of Companies, International Truck and Engine Dealers: ALTRUCK, Lewis and Metro; Thermo King of Eastern Canada, CPL Systems, AW Millwrights, Chris Root Precision Machine, D.H.
