Steckly Cruises to Third Place Finish
The CASCAR Super Series joined the Champ Car World Series at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal this past weekend. The 22 Racing team is pleased to welcome Thermo King of Eastern Canada as the primary sponsor for the CASCAR 100. Thermo King will also be sponsoring the team at the September 9 th race at St. Eustache, PQ. It was the first time that #22 Thermo King driver Scott Steckly had driven at the famous 4.4 km road course. However, Steckly drove like he had been to the course many times before. He posted some fast times in practice and then went on to record the fourth fastest lap during the thirty minute qualifying session, which took place on Saturday morning.
The race then went later that day, and was over very quickly. It took the cars only 40 minutes to complete 23 laps around the track. Steckly started the race in third, as JR Fitzpatrick who qualified ahead of Scott had engine problems and was forced to start at the back of the field. Steckly would remain in third for the entire race. He and leaders Kerry Micks and Robin Buck broke away from the entire field opening up a 19 second lead on the 4 th place finisher of Jim Lapcevich. Steckly said he was “very happy with my race here this weekend, it was great to get back on the podium and tighten up the points race”. With the third place finish, Steckly moved up into fourth place in the CASCAR Championship Standings, 57 points behind the leader JR Fitzpatrick.
The next race in the CASCAR Super Series is this weekend at Cayuga Speedway in Nelles Corners, ON. There are twin-50 lap qualifiers on Saturday, September 2 and the feature race goes Sunday at 1:00 PM.
In the drive for the 2006 CASCAR Super Series Championship, of which Scott presently sits in 4 th place, the 22 Race team is proudly sponsored by: Thermo King of Eastern Canada, Erb Group of Companies, AW Millwrights , International Dealers: ALTRUCK International, Diamond International (Edmonton, AB), Lewis Motors Sales, Sommers Motor Generator Sales, D.H.
