Disappointing Race Weekend for Steckly

Steckly racing after collision with #11 of rookie driver Ron Van Es
Nelles Corners, ON. Bad luck struck again for the Erb Group/ Thermo King/ AW Millwrights Grand Prix driven by Scott Steckly at Cayuga 2000 Speedway this Canada Day Weekend. The #22 Race team took their car to Cayuga 2000 Speedway for a testing session two weeks ago, to try and get a quality set-up for the Atto 200. It looked as though their work had paid off, as Steckly posted a decent qualifying position of ninth. But again this weekend Scott was unable to reverse the jinx that has been on him at Cayuga 2000 Speedway.
The race had many cautions early on in the race, as 40 of the first 80 laps were run under caution. Lap 9 seen the first caution of the afternoon as the #76 of Jason Hathaway got into the back of the #42 of Sean Stafford, who in turn hit Bob Merrifield driver of the #43 car. By lap 27 Steckly had made his first positional pass of the afternoon as he got by the #55 driven by Rob Graham in turn 3. That would be the last pass for Scott on this day, as on lap 39 with Scott and Ron Van Es of the #11 car battling for eighth position. With Steckly and Van Es both exiting turn 4 the #11 car bumped Scott and the two drivers went spinning on the grass in the front straight. Steckly hit the pit wall so hard that he ended up knocking over one of the cement retaining wall. Scott had this to say about the crash "The #11 and I where racing pretty hard for position, and he sort of got into me and when we hit our cars got attached together and we both ended up hitting the wall pretty hard on the infield". As a result of the wreck the Erb Group Pontiac suffered heavy front end damage and was forced to put the car behind the wall for several laps to repair the cars front end alignment. Steckly returned to the race on lap 65 and ran 24 laps until his steering box broke. On lap 89 of 200 the #22 Race team was forced to call it a day albeit a very tough day. After the race was over Scott said "We had another tough race at Cayuga, but we have to look forward to the next race at the Molson Indy which is an exciting event and we usually put on a good show". The eventual race winner was #39 Dave Whitlock, with second going to the #02 of Kerry Micks and the third place finisher was the #1 of Peter Gibbons. The 28th place finish for Scott left him in ninth place in the CASCAR Super Series Championship standing with 646 points.
In the drive for the 2004 CASCAR Super Series Championship, Scott Steckly and 22 Racing are supported by: The Erb Group of Companies, Thermo King of Eastern Canada, AW Millwrights, Jutzi Fuels, CPL Systems, Mr. Transmission (Guelph), Commercial Babcock, TB Woods, Stratford Motor Products, Classy Collectables, PCL Graphics, Duplicolour, Guyons Performance, Filtakleen, and Holloway Automotive.
