Late Spin Drops Steckly to Seventh Place Finish at Mosport
Bowmanville, ON. The NASCAR Canadian Tire made its return to oval track racing last weekend at Mosport Speedway in Bowmanville. Erb Group driver Scott Steckly from Milverton was hoping to build on his top- five finish he had the previous week in Montreal. Scott was able to qualify his Dodge Charger in sixth place for the start of Saturday night’s race.
The car was running well for the first 60 laps of the 200 lap race and Steckly had the car up into the top- five. During a caution period on lap 60 the team pitted for two right side tires and fuel. These changes dropped Scott down to 12th place. Steckly was able to steadily work his Erb Group Charger through the field and back into the top- five. By lap 127 Scott took over the lead from Don Thomson Jr., Steckly held the position for five laps until Thomson made a pass around Scott to retake the lead. At lap 195 there was a caution and Scott was again in second place challenging Thomson for the lead. When the green flag dropped Scott took the position away from Thomson. As the two cars entered turn one, Scott was spun from behind and dropped all the way back to 12th, the last car on the lead lap. A green/ white/ checkered finish would see the Erb Group Dodge gain five positions in the final two laps and finish in seventh place.
Scott said “we had a great Dodge Charger tonight but maybe not as good as Donny had. I was very motivated to salvage the best finish possible on the last two laps of the race after having such a good car all night”.
The next race in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series is Saturday August 19th for the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres in Trois-Rivieres, PQ.
