Steckly Struggles to Seventeenth Place at Mosport

The CASCAR Super Series was on the road again last weekend. This time it was to Mosport Raceway in Bowmanville. Scott Steckly, driver of the #22 Erb Group Dodge Charger came into the seventh race of the year in third place in the overall standings. Steckly continued his strong start by qualifying 7 th for the 200 lap event held on Saturday August 12th.
The race started off good for Steckly, as he settled into the eighth position, until the #77 of Derek Lynch spun out on lap 15. This moved Scott up to seventh. Shortly after returning to green flag racing, Scott was passed by both the #39 Dave Whitlock and #1 Peter Gibbons, pushing Scott down to the ninth position. Scott remained in the ninth until the next caution flag came out at lap 69. During that caution, there was massive confusion on pit lane as the #4 of Don Thomson did not pull up far enough into his pit box causing a log jam for the cars pitting behind Thomson. Fortunately, for Steckly he was pitting directly ahead of Thomson and was able to pull into his pit box. When, Steckly pitted it also blocked in the rest of the cars behind him. The majority of the field then had to wait for the Erb Group pit crew to finish their stop in order to leave their pit stalls. As a result of all of this, Scott was able to gain 4 positions and move into fifth place. The top-5 standing only lasted until lap 87 when the Erb Group Dodge had a broken panhard bar. The team was able to fix the problem under caution, but they lost 5 laps in the process. That put Steckly way back in the 20 th position. Over the last 100 laps of the race Scott was able to gain three positions and finish the race in 17 th place, six laps down to race winner Dave Whitlock. Scott said “we were running up front for most of the race and it was disappointing to break the panhard bar, which cost us a several points in the championship standings. We’ll just have work even harder to get back in the championship picture in the coming weeks.”
The next race in the CASCAR Super Series is at the CHAMP Car Grand Prix of Montreal on August 26 th. The following weekend the teams return to Cayuga Speedway in Nelles Corners, ON.
