Transmission Problems Hobble Steckly at Mosport
Bowmanville, ON. After a three week break to think about what could have been at Cayuga Speedway, Scott Steckly and 22 Racing headed to Mosport International Raceway for the second race of the year on Sunday. Steckly, has always been a strong road course racer, and if not for some more bad luck this race would not have been any different. The Erb Group Charger had a good qualifying time and was able to post the eighth fastest time among the 29 competitors for the race.
Scott was able to bide his time and race around the track gaining one position, during the opening laps. He was in seventh until lap 18 when the transmission in the car lost all gears except fourth. This severely hurt the team’s chances of a good finish. The problem made it very difficult for Steckly to accelerate out of the tight hairpin turns at Mosport in fourth gear. The team made the decision to ride out the race with just fourth gear as stopping to change the transmission would have resulted in losing more laps than they were already going to go down. The team pitted on lap 31 for tires and fuel, the crew also looked at the transmission. He finished the race two laps down in 20th place.
Scott considered his car to be a top-five machine had everything been working properly. He also said “I am really looking forward to racing at Barrie in two weeks and getting our season turned around.
In the drive for the 2007 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Championship, Scott Steckly currently sits in 16th place.
