Steckly Comes Back For Tenth Place Finish
The #22 Leafs TV Dodge Charger driven by Scott Steckly made its second appearance of the season at Barrie Speedway on Saturday, September 9th. Scott has had one of the best cars at Barrie Speedway since the series began going to the track last year. That includes Scott’s first career win, which happened in the first race of the season last year. The Leafs TV car was a big hit with fans at Barrie Speedway, as they waited in line for a chance to get an autograph and picture with Scott. The Leafs TV Dodge had the 12th fastest time in practice, but during qualifying Steckly was able to improve by posting the fifth best time in the field of 20 cars.
Scott was able to remain in the top-five for the first half of the race. While running in fifth on lap 120, #12 of John Gaunt spun out, causing #1 of Peter Gibbons to check up. Steckly was unable to steer his car out of the way, and he rear ended Gibbons causing damage to the nose of the car. Steckly lost 3 laps on pit road while the team fixed the damage. When Scott returned to the track he was still running lap times as fast as the leaders. A while later on lap 230 the Leafs TV car was spun out by an over aggressive #27 Andrew Ranger. Through all of this Steckly still drove his way to a top- 10 finish, coming home in 10th place.
Steckly said “we were really looking forward to coming to Barrie, we always run well. Unfortunately, the breaks didn’t fall our way tonight”.
