Good Run For Steckly, Stalled at Barrie

Barrie, ON. Scott Steckly and the 22 Racing team were hoping to change their season around with a good finish this past weekend at Barrie Speedway. The race went on Canada Day in front of a jam packed crowd at Barrie Speedway. Steckly, driving the Erb Group Dodge Charger qualified his car in the fifth position.

The race started late on Sunday night, but from the beginning of the race Steckly had a car that was handling very well. Early on, the top-five cars including Steckly broke away from the rest of the pack, opening up a straightaway lead. Scott consistently had one of the best cars on the track, through the first half of the race. He remained in the top-five, staying patient and slowly gaining one position at a time. By lap 124, Scott reached second place. Unfortunately, he was unable to remain in the runner-up position for long. On lap 151, the engine in the #22 Erb Group Charger expired and the team was no longer able to continue on in the race. Steckly wound up finishing the race in 19th place, another disappointing finish for the team.

Scott was happy with how the car was running saying “we definitely thought we had a car that could win the race tonight. It handled real well, and hopefully we will get it right for next race out west in Vernon”.

The next race in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series is July 15 at Sun Valley Speedway in Vernon, BC.

In the drive for the 2007 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Championship, Scott Steckly currently sits in 19th place.
