Late Comeback Leaves Steckly in Sixth at Peterborough
Scott Steckly racing with #55 Rob Graham at Peterborough Speedway
August 28th
Peterborough, ON. Coming off his eighth place finish at Mosport with his 8th top- 10 in ten races, Scott Steckly, driver of the Erb Group/ Guyons Performance/ Thermo King/ AW Millwrights Grand Prix were looking for another excellent performance, this weekend at Peterborough Speedway. The Milverton, Ontario native was primed for another good showing at Peterborough a place where he came home in fourth place earlier this year. Qualifying produced good results for Erb Group race team as Steckly qualified in the ninth position, in the field of the 28 drivers.
For the first 50 laps of the race Steckly remained in ninth position, until lap 54. A nine car collision involving most of the leaders caused Steckly to move up into fourth place. Steckly remained in fourth until the next yellow flag at lap 94, when Scott and race leader Don Thomson Jr. elected to pit. The Erb Group Pit Crew changed the two right side tires and added fuel to the race car. Steckly came out of the pit in tenth position, last car on the lead lap. By lap 124 Steckly had already moved into fifth place. Following a caution on lap 132, Steckly was promptly passed by #02 Kerry Micks, #17 D.J. Kennington, and the #50 of Pete Shepherd Jr., putting Scott back in eighth place. Late in the race a light rain started falling, but it didn't hamper the racing as in the closing laps Scott went on to pass the #19 car of Brad Graham and the #28 of Steve Robblee. "We had a good car tonight", said Steckly, "I would have liked to be in the top- five, but a sixth place finish is fine".
