Partners In Best Practice

The Erb Group of Companies is proud to participate in many leading initiatives within our industry. When it comes to important issues like food safety, product security and the environment we are firmly committed to going the extra mile.

Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP):

HACCP is a system that is preventive; Its purpose is to identify potential hazards that are most likely to cause illness and look to control or prevent those hazards. It combines up-to-date technical and scientific information with step-by-step procedures to evaluate and monitor the safety of food products.

Wendell Erb, General Manager of the Erb Group of Companies, states: “Undertaking the rigorous audit process to receive HAACP Certification is not required for transport companies yet, but it is a further service to our customers, assuring them of the finest possible protection for their food shipments. Our customers include household names within the food manufacturing industry, whose reputations rely on the expertise of our refrigerated transport to maintain the integrity of their products. Being able to deliver above and beyond our customers expectations is something we always strive for at the Erb Group and having this level of strict quality assurance is just good business.”

SmartWay Partnership:

Erb International Inc. has joined the SmartWaySM Transport Partnership, an innovative collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the freight industry, designed to increase energy efficiency while significantly reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution.

Erb will contribute to the Partnership’s goal to reduce 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012 by improving the environmental performance of our freight operations. Carbon dioxide is the most common greenhouse gas, and nitrogen oxide is an air pollutant that contributes to smog. By joining SmartWay, Erb demonstrates its strong environmental leadership and corporate responsibility.

Erb’s Director of Safety and Compliance, Tom Boehler, explains: “We encourage all practical steps that the trucking industry can take to be good citizens. Trucking is necessary to the economy - we deliver the food on your table - but we recognize that technology now allows us to do so with less impact to the environment.”

Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT):
C-TPAT is a voluntary government initiative which was put in place after 9/11 to help secure the supply chain entering the U.S. All Erb terminal locations, properties, employees, and business partners are subject to the same rules. This initiative does not just affect drivers - it has an impact in every department, the regulations of C-TPAT covers all employee security related issues from buildings and grounds to conveyance security, personnel security, physical security, business partner security practices, information systems security, and security searches conducted on all new employees.

Once a company becomes C-TPAT accredited they must implement security procedures suggested and set before them by Customs & Border Patrol (CBP). These security measures must be monitored, enforced and documented on a regular basis in order to maintain the accreditation.
